Bayern Munich star and German centre forward, Thomas Muller has recently come into the news for not believing that FC Barcelona is a better side than the current German champions.
Bayern Munich are currently on course to clinch a record fourth successive Bundesliga title after their goalless draw at the Signal Iduna Park on Saturday which has kept the German side five points ahead of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the league table.
The Catalan side, meanwhile, are also sitting pretty at the top of the La Liga table, eight points clear of the second-placed Atletico Madrid. Both Bayern and Barca are still in contention for this year's UEFA Champions League as well as their respective domestic cup competitions.
Nothing to split the teams
When asked if the defending European champions, Barcelona are the foremost team in the world, Thomas Muller, 26, told the press that looking at what both clubs have achieved this season, nothing really splits them until now.
"I wouldn't really know where they are better (than us)," the German world cupper has told the German television channel, Sport1.
Later he also added, "Sure, you can see week after week how good they are. But they could also see us play and say that we are strong too. We will definitely be geared up should we play them (in the UEFA Champions League)."
With the Bavarian side still in contention in all competitions this season, their manager, Pep Guardiola is set to conclude his reign at the club by winning the treble before leaving for Manchester City in the next summer. However, Muller knows that the Stern des Südens still have a long and difficult road ahead to achieve such a feat.
Muller, who has scored 17 goals in 25 games this season said, "It is something special that we compete for those three titles every year because the club has had a super development. But it's very difficult to win all three. Bayern Munich has only achieved it once in 116 years of club history."
In order to advance to the quarter-finals of the coveted European tournament, the Bavarian side must get better of Juventus in the round of 16’s second leg match next week.
The two clubs are set to meet on Wednesday at the Allianz Arena after last month's 2-2 first leg stalemate, in which the old lady of Turin had come from 0-2 to draw level.
"Really, I would have loved to play the second leg three days after the first," Muller told Sports1. "The 2-2 wasn't exactly fitting to what we played in Turin, at least for most parts."
