Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes has caught the attention of Barcelona following his impressive displays this season. And if reports are to be believed the Catalan club are keen on signing the young player after receiving a glowing report from their scouts.
Gomes joined United in 2014, after an impressive trial and his displays so far has made him one of the most promising talents to emerge in recent years. The young skipper made his U18 team debut when he was just 14 years of age. And while United failed to reach the latter stages of the Premier Cup 2015, Gomes was handed the Most Valuable Player award. The youngster is eligible to play for Portugal, however, he has opted to play for England and is currently the captain for Three Lions’ U17 team.
An outstanding player prospect, Gomes has a wide passing range and is comfortable and assured in possession. A captain of the England Under-16 team, the young player is considered to have a lot of potential and if he does continue to improve and handle the challenges of the game, he will be a force to reckon.
The player has been showcasing his talent since the start of the 2016-2017 season as he pulled the strings in No.10 roll and provided goals and assists at the youth level, which includes a header against West Brom and a hat-trick, after coming in as a substitute against Everton before his 16th birthday. The young player has been on his best form claiming goals and providing assists so far into the 2016/2017 campaign.
Gomes has often been compared to Manchester City’s David Silva because of the way he floats around finding pockets of space and in between the lines. The player possesses a devastating combination of skill and speed which often helps him take on a player by himself, without having to find a teammate to pass the ball. For a defender, Angel Gomes will be a tough challenge to face up to.
The youngster is currently on a scholarship deal which will see him at United until 2018. However, the Red Devils will have to battle against Barcelona as the latter are keen on the player as they monitor his progress.
The interest from the Catalan club does not come as a surprise if considered the player’s attributes which make him a typical product of La Masia. A talented player who can play anywhere in the midfield with a combination of sensational control and flawless technique, Gomes will be a player worth the fight against United.
