Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen in a signal of their ambitions have extended the existing contract of German international midfielder Lars Bender by another two years until June 30, 2019.

Lars Bender like his twin brother Sven Bender, who plays for Borussia Dortmund, has drawn a lot of interest especially from English Premier League clubs, who have been interested in signing him.

“Lars Bender has at Bayer 04 developed brilliantly and has become a national team player. He is a very important cornerstone of our team, while also one of the very popular players amongst the fans of the Werkself,” Bayer 04 managing director Michael Schade said.

By signing the contract extension, 24 year old Lars Bender commits his mid-term future to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, who will continue to bank on young German players and will try to develop them further without the need of having to sell them on.

“Here at Bayer 04 Leverkusen something has evolved in recent years, something very positive. Our team is strong and has the potential to be even better. I want to be part of this story and make my contribution, that we clearly and permanently establish ourselves amongst the top teams. Bayer 04 has become for me a great passion. I feel at home at this club and it gives me great pleasure to play here.”
