David Beckham, who is now retired from football, was offered a trial as kicker for an American Football club.

The offer was made around the time Beckham was contemplating a possible move from the L.A. Galaxy to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Former Manchester United star’s long range kicks with a round ball drew the interests of an NFL franchise who contacted the player to see if he would be interested in trying out as their star kicker.

One should not be so quick to dismiss the notion as Beckham’s uncanny ability of bending in long range free kicks can be tweaked to score field goals in the NFL.

The former PSG midfielder had already expressed his desire to return to the US to help in the growth of Major League Soccer, but in spite of that the NFL coach felt he could be an asset to a team as well.

Becks has already proved that he can make it big in the NFL while training for a 2007 Adidas commercial. He exhibited natural talent when he worked out with New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush.

A source in Hollywood said: “David stood on the greatest stages to perform magnificent feats with his feet.”

“Major league kickers can send the ball 40 yards straight – David has shown for the last 15 years he can do that week in week out.

The offer was also made taking into consideration the English player’s global commercial prowess which will be beneficial in marketing.

The source added: “The offer came in and he politely said that it wasn’t right for him. Perhaps in the next few months he could change his mind.”

The ex-England skipper, who is 38, drew the curtains on his illustrious profile having won championships in four different countries.
