Bojan Krkic has insisted that he is still a Barcelona player for the time being and has not signed for Roma yet, despite noises coming from Spain that the striker has already agreed personal terms with the Italian club. The player also expressed his happiness over winning the European U-21 Championships, in spite of not always being in the thick if things.
Bojan was speaking to the media after Spain trumped Switzerland 2-0 in the finals of the tournament held in Denmark. He told media station EFE that the Roma news was not concrete yet, and he would commit to nothing until the dotted line had been signed.
He said-
“I have just won the European Under-21 tournament. I am very happy and I want to celebrate with my team-mates before returning to Barcelona,”
“Even I cannot say that the transfer has been completed or that I am a Roma player.”
Speaking about the tournament in particular, Bojan expressed his disappointment at being unable to break into the starting lineup ahead of fellow striker Adrian Lopez, largely owing to his lacklustre showing for Barcelona at the end of last season.
He was still happy to be part of a winning team however, and took solace in the fact that he was there whenever his coach needed him. He stressed over the fact that what mattered in the end was that the team won and lauded Spain’s collective effort.
He said-
“I have not had a good time but I have been ready when the coach needed me.”
“I wanted to play more a prominent role but that was not possible. The important thing is that in the end, we were champions.”
Bojan has found opportunities hard to come by at Barca, and understandably so. With the magical trio of Lionel Messi, David Villa and Pedro Rodriguez up front wreaking havoc on teams week after week, the Serbian striker found it nigh impossible to nail a starting spot. Although Barcelona would be unwilling to sell a potential star-striker, they might be willing to negotiate a one year loan deal with Roma which will see Bojan gain experience at a top team in a defensively solid league. This deal should also suit the Italians just fine.
An earlier report stated that Roma director Walter Sabatini had travelled to Barcelona for talks and an agreement had been reached. But Sabatini was cautious when asked about it, and Bojan seems to be mirroring the cautious approach until the transfer is complete.
