Manchester United Transfer News: Manchester United sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace
What's the story?
BBC has confirmed that Manchester United have reached an agreement with Crystal Palace for the signature of England Under-21 international Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The deal is reportedly worth £50m with the 21-year-old expected to report for a medical immediately.
In case you didn't know...
After having come through the Crystal Palace academy, Bissaka made his senior club debut in February 2018 and went on to establish himself as a first team regular for the Eagles. The 21-year-old, who is of Congolese descent, had a breakthrough season in the 2018-19 campaign, starting 35 out of Crystal Palace's 38 Premier League games and impressing fans and pundits alike with his pacy, physical displays.
Despite representing DR Congo at the Under-20 level, Wan-Bissaka chose to then play for the England Under-20 and Under-21 sides and was part of the Young Lions squad that got eliminated in the group stages in the ongoing UEFA Under-21 European championships in Itay and San Marino.
The heart of the matter
Manchester United and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finally managed to procure their man after having as many as two initial bids rejected by the Crystal Palace management. Regarded as a long-term replacement for the departing Antonio Valencia, United have signed Wan-Bissaka a long-term contract taking his wages from £10,000 per week to up to £90,000 per week.
With Portuguese youngster Diego Dalot and the ageing Ashley Young proving insufficient to United's requirements at right-back, Wan-Bissaka is expected to go straight into Solskjaer's starting lineup next season.
Wan Bissaka is expected to report immediately at the Manchester United training facility for a medical, before leaving for a holiday.
Manchester United players are scheduled to report for pre-season training by July 1. The Red Devils next take the field against Perth Glory as part of their pre-season tour of Australia, with kickoff set for 13th July.Published 26 Jun 2019, 18:05 IST
