Bundesliga transfer news: Bayern confirm a new deal for winger, Borussia Dortmund close in on Juventus star - 9th May 2018

Juventus v Cagliari Calcio - Serie A
Off to Dortmund?

There is still plenty to play for in the Bundesliga despite the fact that there is just one gameweek left. Bayern might have been crowned Champions, but the race for the Champions League places is still on as is the battle to remain in the Bundesliga as either Hamburg or Wolfsburg will be relegated to the 2. Bundesliga.

The German league isn't known for exorbitant spending as clubs resort to scouting and promoting their younger players. The landscape is slowing changing though. Let's take a look at the recent transfer news surrounding the German top flight.

Franck Ribery extends his contract

There as a lot of speculation regarding the future of Franck Ribery as the Frenchman is now 35 and doesn't have much juice in those legs. He has shown this season that he can play a role if he is utilised properly. By that, I mean not playing him game after game simply because he isn't at his physical peak anymore.

Bayern put all the speculation to bed by confirming that the attacker has indeed signed an extension that'll keep him at the club until 2019. During the announcement, Ribery said, "I'm very proud to have another year here - Munich has become a home for me and my family."

Leverkusen seal the deal for Mitchell Weiser

Bayer Leverkusen have an important week coming up as they need to better Hoffenheim's result to overtake them and finish in the top four. Despite that, Heiko Herrlich's side have been pretty busy having announced two deals in the span of days. Having signed Vasco da Gama youngster Paulinho for a fee of £23.76m, the Die Werkself have now announced the arrival of Hertha Berlin fullback Mitchell Weiser.

The former Bayern man was once again impressed at right-back for Pál Dárdai's side this season and though they haven't been able to match last season's sixth-place finish, he was one of the better players for the side.

At 24, Weiser still has a long career ahead of him and he could be a good fit in Herrlich's young team with a fearless approach. Weiser has the ability to play on the wing as well and his ability to stretch defences will take some of the pressure of young Leon Bailey.

Borussia Dortmund to sign Stephan Lichtsteiner?

Lucien Favre is a well-respected manager in the Bundesliga circle and his arrival at Borussia Dortmund could see the team finally move forward after a season to forget. The Swiss manager could get straight down to business as the club have been linked with a move for Juventus fullback Stephan Lichtsteiner who will be a free agent come summer.

It seems like a strange deal though. Dortmund's current first-choice right-back, Lukas Piszczek, is 32. So you would have thought that the side would go after a more younger replacement who can put in consistent performances week in week out. Nevertheless, Lichtsteiner has put in a shift whenever he has played and it could be a pretty shrewd deal.
