Bundesliga transfer news: Meyer's destination revealed, Borussia Dortmund eyeing French defender, and more, 21st May 2018

FC Bayern Muenchen v VfB Stuttgart - Bundesliga
What's going on, Uli?

It can be a slow day if you’re following Bundesliga transfer news. The German sides aren’t known for their lavish spending, so unlike the Premier League rumour mills, the speculation from the top flight tends to be limited. Need proof? Read a bit further!

Uli Hoeness hints the arrival of a ‘superstar’ is unlikely

Bayern Munich have already signed a midfielder in Leon Goretzka who if not a ‘superstar’ is definitely a brilliant player. However, the general feeling among quite a few fans is that they spend more money to succeed. In fact, even the media are batting for that cause, because why not?

The latest player to be linked with Bayern is Rodrigo Moreno, as revealed yesterday, but when Bayern President Uli Hoeness was asked about a big name or big money arrival, his answer was exactly what the fans and the media didn’t want to hear.

Hoeness said that the side need to maximise their output and perform better as a unit rather than target big name players.

"We need one or two players who can do a great job in the important games and not when playing against the weakest opponents," he said. "We'll work on that."

It’s hard to argue with the former attacker as they do have a pretty balanced squad but you can’t help but think that to compete with Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, and Manchester City, eventually they’ll have to go big in the window.

For now, the Bayern fans will hope the club can continue signing the best young talents like they have done in the last few years.

Max Meyer’s next club could be Hoffenheim

They’ve lost Goretzka, they’ll soon lose Max Meyer; the Schalke fans won’t really be pleased with how easily the club have allowed their bright young players to leave for free. Unlike Goretzka’s departure, Meyer is leaving with a sour taste in the mouth.

Meyer’s next club will be important for his development and it seems he has found the perfect destination with TSG Hoffenheim being the interested party.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side managed to finish above Borussia Dortmund in the league and Meyer’s addition to the midfield will help add more creativity to the side.

It seems like a virtual swap deal as Mark Uth agreed to a pre-contract deal with Die Konigsblauen a few months ago. So, Uth to Schalke, and Meyer to Hoffenheim, it seems.

Abdou Diallo to Borussia Dortmund?

Diallo in action

After what was a season to forget for the Dortmund fans, the club are likely to be active and add a few fresh faces to challenge Bayern, or at least target the Vizemeister title! Latest reports indicate that they could be after Mainz defender Abdou Diallo.

The defence has been a big problem for Dortmund in recent seasons. The departure of usual stalwarts Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic has taken away the solidity and there have been far too many rotations and experimentations with new faces. Diallo could solve that.

Touted to achieve great things because of his aggressive approach, the Frenchman is also a goal-threat. Still only 22, if he can settle well at Dortmund, he could be a long-term solution at the back.

Lest we forget, Lucien Favre knows how to get the best out of young talents. Remember Andreas Christensen at Gladbach before he returned to Chelsea?
