Burnley 1-2 Chelsea: Player Ratings

Burnley v Chelsea - Premier League
Chelsea reduced the gap between them and Tottenham to five points

SCORE: Burnley 1-2 Chelsea

SCORERS: Burnley - Ashley Barnes 64'; Chelsea - Kevin Long 20' (OG), Victor Moses 69'

Chelsea secured back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time in 2018 as they secured a hard-fought away win at Turf Moor against Burnley.

Even though the game had a slow start, The Blues looked the brightest of the two sides and went ahead after Nick Pope's attempt to clear a Victor Moses cross rebounded off Kevin Long and into his own net.

The Clarets did start the second half with more intent but were almost punished in the 55th minute when N'Golo Kante sent Alvaro Morata through on goal, only for the Spaniard to hit his shot wide of the target.

Morata's miss came to haunt Chelsea as Burnley scored the equaliser in the 64th minute when Johann Gudmundsson's shot was deflected by Ashley Barnes and caught Thibaut Courtois flat-footed.

But the parity only lasted for five minutes as Moses stepped into the Burnley box and slotted the ball past Pope. Even as the Clarets tried hard to find the equaliser, Chelsea hung on and secured all three points and will now switch their attention to the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton this weekend.

Here's a look at the player ratings from the game:

Gudmundsson was Burnley's best player today

Nick Pope (6/10):

It was not one of Pope's best performances for the Clarets as he was at fault for both the goals. His attempt to clear Moses' cross in the first half deflected off his own defender into the net.

Pope was also beaten at the near post for Chelsea's winner and should have done well given his form this season. The English shot-stopper did make four saves in the game as well.

James Tarkowski (6/10):

Tarkowski put in a good shift for his side. The English defender had a passing accuracy of 77% and also won five aerial duels.

He did receive a yellow card for his tackle on Morata and could have been sent off towards the end of the first half.

Kevin Long (6/10):

The Irish defender would feel he was unlucky to score the own goal that broke the deadlock. But apart from that Long had a good game as he had an 89% passing accuracy. He also made six clearances and five interceptions throughout the game.

Stephen Ward (6/10):

The left-back had a quiet game against Chelsea and had a tough time dealing with th threat of Moses. Ward did make 35 accurate passes in the game but Burnley would have wanted him to deliver some dangerous balls from the left flank.

Matthew Lowton (7/10):

Lowton was a constant threat for the Clarets and presented a good cross to Barnes in the 30th minute which the Burnley strikers just missed. He made three successful tackles and made four clearances throughout the game.

Ashley Westwood (6/10):

The former Aston Villa man had a decent game at the heart of the midfield for Burnley. Westwood had a passing accuracy of 84% and made two interceptions in the game as well.

Jack Cork (6/10):

The former Chelsea academy graduate put in a stellar performance in the midfield. Cork won two of his aerial duels and also completed two successful tackles as well.

Johann Gudmundsson (8/10):

The Icelandic midfielder was arguably the Clarets' best player on the field and was working hard to create chances. Even though the equaliser will go down in the name of Barnes, Gudmundsson should be given full credit for it.

He made three key passes throughout the game and also helped out defensively as well making some vital clearances as well. He was on hand to stop Pedro's run that looked threatening in the 58th minute.

Aaron Lennon (6/10):

The former Spurs winger was not at his best for Burnley today as he was not that influential throughout the game. He had a passing accuracy of 65% and made two successful tackles.

Chris Wood (6/10):

The Burnley frontman did not register a shot on target but did have a passing accuracy of 83% and came off for Sam Vokes in the 72nd minute.

Barnes was Burnley's second best player tonight and scored the equaliser for the Clarets. He was a constant threat to the Chelsea defence and won six of his aerial duels.
