Carabao Cup 2017/18: Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea, Player Ratings

Nacho
Nacho Monreal celebrates aiding in Arsenal's first goal.

Eden Haz

Eden Hazard (R) was a thorn in Arsenal's side all day but couldn't help his side get a victory.

Chelsea

Willy Caballero - 6/10

Couldn't do much for both goals tonight given the nature of the shots but didn't have much else to do all game.

Antonio Rudiger - 6.5/10

He's a good defender, strong, tall and commanding but his luck let him down today. An own-goal and an unfortunate deflection that led to Xhaka's goal will sting.

Andreas Christensen - 6.5/10

He still has a way to go before he can truly start making a difference for this Chelsea side but he is young and he does have the potential to do so.

Cesar Azpilicueta - 6.5/10

Not at his usual best but when the team around aren't up to it, there's not much you can do alone. Clearly, Azpilicueta missed his striker-partner in Morata up top.

Marcos Alonso - 6.5/10

Hasn't been able to put in a good performance for Arsenal ever since that skull-bashing performance at the Bridge last season. Today, was more of the mediocre same.

Tiemoue Bakayoko - 7.5/10

A sharp contrast to his performance in the reverse fixture, Bakayoko was the midfielder who troubled Arsenal the most tonight. He was strong, he held the ball well and got some grass on his knee when needed.

N'Golo Kante - 6.5/10

Hasn't been the same since returning from the injury this season but did prevent a few Arsenal breakaways and could use some more game time to get his rhythm back.

Victor Moses - 6/10

Kept quite all evening by either Alex Iwobi or Nacho Monreal and was substituted for possibly the same reason.

Pedro - 7/10

His passing wasn't exceptional today - 65% accuracy - and his runs were often spotted early and cut off by the Arsenal defence. Can do a lot better.

Willian - 6.5/10

Was a threat in the game until an unfortunate injury forced him to limp off the field in the first half. This could be worrying for Chelsea.

Eden Hazard - 8.5/10

Despite being on the losing side, Eden Hazard was the best player on the field causing all sorts of problems everytime he was on the ball.

Substitutes

Ross Barkley - 6/10

Didn't have the best of reintroductions into pro football having been out since the end of last season but did well some much-needed valuable minutes under his belt tonight.

Michy Batshuayi - 6/10

Supposedly close to leaving Chelsea and tonight's performance showed us just why. Never quite got into the game being brought on.

Davide Zappacosta - 6/10

Came on to replace Moses in the hope that he'd trouble Monreal more but ended up mirroring the Nigerian's performance.
