Carlo Ancelotti responds to speculation about Schweinsteiger's Bayern return

Schweinsteiger’s future at Old Trafford looks uncertain

Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti has ruled out any possibility of a return to Allianz Arena for Bastian Schweinsteiger. The Italian confirmed that the former Bayern Munich man is not in his plans this season.

Rumors of Schweinsteiger’s return to his former club started flying when Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that the door is open for the 32-year-old to return to Bundesliga Champions.

"Should he speak at some point about a desire to return, then we will discuss it with him," said Rummenigge to Sport Bild.

Bayern Captain Phillip Lahm had also echoed these sentiments and said, "Basti knows everyone and everything here; he would be predestined to work in the team."

But, it looks like the newly appointed head coach has no place for the Bayern legend in his squad. Ancelotti asserted that the 2014 World Cup winner is not in his plans at the Bavarian club.

"In football, there is no ‘if’. Schweinsteiger is not in our ideas. He was a fantastic player for Bayern, he was a fantastic player for football, but I think that it is not time for him to come back to Munich", Ancelotti said while speaking to the press.

Newspaper reports claim that the Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has forced Schweinsteiger to train with the U-23 squad and the German has been told to empty his dressing room locker at Manchester United. Schweinsteiger’s elder brother Tobias tweeted “No respect” on Monday, probably with regard to the treatment meted out by Mourinho to his brother at Old Trafford.

Schweinsteiger did not feature in United’s squad for both the pre-season tour to China and the squad for Wayne Rooney’s testimonial. It is believed that the German midfielder is one of the several players Mourinho wants to offload this summer.

Schweinsteiger spent 13 trophy-laden seasons at the Bavarian club, including eight Bundesliga titles, seven DFB-Pokal and one Champions League. He made exactly 500 competitions across all competitions and scored 68 goals. The ex-German international transferred to United in the summer of 2015, reuniting with his former manager at Bayern and the then United manager, Louis van Gaal.

He was expected to dominate things in midfield for United but failed to make any impact. His first season at United was plagued by injuries and he failed to make regular appearances for the team.
