Reaching the Quarter Final of the Champions League after a gap of seven years, Real Madrid thrash Tottenham Hotspurs by 4-0 goals while defending Champions Inter Milan collapsed to a 2-5 defeat against rampant Schalke 04 in the first leg of the quarter final of the UEFA Champions League.

Playing host to the Champions League debutant Tottenham Hotspurs at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night, Real Madrid are now hopeful of a Semi-Final berth unless a miracle takes place at White Hart Lane when they visit next week for the second leg game.

Mourinho’s men drew the first blood into the 5th minute of the match, when Ozil’s corner kick was sharply headed home by Adebayor after he out jumped his markers. Neither keeper Heurelho Gomes or Luka Modric on the line could keep out the powerful downward header.

The Londoners dream suffered a jolt in the 15th minute when a needless and atrocious challenge on Marcelo earned Peter Crouch his second yellow card of the match, reducing the wounded visitors to ten men.

Tottenham winger Gareth Bale was the only threat for the home team who successfully over saw him. At the half hour mark Bale came close to scoring when he received a long diagonal ball and deceived Ramos before sending his angled shot into the side netting in what was probably Tottenham’s best chance of the game.

Real routed the visitor in the second half and added three more goals in their quest for their 10th European title. Adebayor scored his tenth goals against Spurs in as many matches in the 57th minute, heading in a Marcelo cross.

Spurs never recovered after the second goal as they struggle to complete even strings of five passes though they desperately need an away goal and restrict Los Blancos’ goal to two, to keep a chance of fight back at home in weeks time.

However things took the other way round when Angel Di Maria lashed the best goal of the night with a powerful shot into the top corner in the 72nd minute before Cristiano Ronaldo completed the rout in the closing stages.
