Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal: Player Ratings

Chelsea v Arsenal - Carabao Cup Semi-Final: First Leg
All to play for in the 2nd leg at the Emirates!

After having an exciting thriller last week, one would have hoped for the same yet again. But it was nothing like that. The final whistle blows and the 1st leg ends in a goalless draw at the Stamford Bridge. Chelsea would feel frustrated as they had better chances between the two teams and they should have scored at least a goal in the game.

Arsene Wenger watched the game from the stands but would be available in the 2nd leg, which is in 2 weeks time for now.

Here are the player ratings from the game.

Arsenal

Chelsea v Arsenal - Carabao Cup Semi-Final: First Leg
Ospina made some fine saves to stop the hosts from scoring

David Ospina - 7

Ospina made a couple of good saves to keep the Gunners in the game. He would be definitely happy after getting away from being in the no-mans land once.

Calum Chambers - 7

Chambers had a great night. The defender read the game well and even prevented a goal after Moses struck the post.

Shkodran Mustafi - 8

Probably Arsenal's best player in the field. The German international won 5 aerial duels and made 9 clearances. He held his position tight as Chelsea tried to penetrate through the defence.

Rob Holding - 5

After having a disastrous performance against Nottingham Forest, the player showed signs of improvement this time. But still, a long way to go.

Hector Bellerin - 6

He made some great runs going forward in the 1st half of the game but his fine ball was lacking. In the 2nd half, he was forced to sit back and defend as Chelsea looked more dangerous.

Jack Wilshere - 7

Wilshere captained Arsenal after a long time and played well until he was forced to come because of an injury in the 2nd half.

Granit Xhaka - 5

The 25-year-old wasted a couple of set pieces option in the 1st half. He also lacked the quality to drive the team forward.

Maitland-Niles - 5

After getting better of Moses last week, it was the other way round this time. He let Moses run past him on numerous occasions but thanks to Ospina, the damage was controlled.

Alex Iwobi - 5

One would have thought that the player would sit this game out because of partying before the Nottingham game, but he didn't. He had a disappointing night.

Danny Welbeck - 5

Starting ahead of Sanchez, the player failed to test Chelsea's defence. Apart from making a few good sprints, Welbeck offered nothing else while going forward.

Alexandre Lacazette - 5

8 games and counting. The player has failed to score in his last 8 appearances. He had a wonderful opportunity to scored but fired it over the bar.

Substitutions

Mohamed Elneny - 6

He came on for an injured Wilshere and did what he had to do. He stuck with Hazard and didn't mess up.

Alexis Sanchez - 5

Brought on in the final 25 minutes, Sanchez didn't really have much to offer.

Chelsea

Chelsea v Arsenal - Carabao Cup Semi-Final: First Leg

Hazard didn't have a great night!

Thibaut Courtois - 7

The Belgian didn't have quite much to do throughout the game barring a couple of saves. He did what he was supposed to do.

Cesar Azpilicueta - 7

Yet again, the Spaniard had a great night with the ball. He defended well and almost got a late assist in the 1st half which David Ospina saved.

Andreas Christensen - 6

Having just signed his new contract, the defender lived up to his expectations. However, he could have given Chelsea the lead twice as he missed 2 headers in the game. Something which Christensen can improve on.

Antonio Rudiger - 5

With Garry Cahill out of the game, Rudiger got started in the back 3. Just like Courtois, he didn't have much to do as Arsenal didn't pose a lot of threat.

Victor Moses - 7

After having a bad outing last week, Moses was back in his form. He was dangerous while going forward and got the better of Maitland-Niles this time. He came very close to scoring for the Blues but was denied by Ospina.

N'Golo Kante - 8

Once again, the Frenchman bossed the midfield. He shielded the defence and wasn't shy from going forward with the attack.

Cesc Fabregas - 6

The former Arsenal man was close to opening the goal when Azpilicueta gave a wonderful cross only which was only to be headed straight into Ospina. Apart from that, he had a good performance.

Danny Drinkwater - 5

Chosen ahead of Bakayoko, Drinkwater had a decent 1st half. He looked neat and tidy but was taken away midway in the 2nd half after failing to make an impact.

Marcos Alonso - 6

The Spaniard scored a stunning goal last week but was quite this time. He looked dangerous while going forward and could have gotten an assist if Christensen had scored.

Eden Hazard - 6

Not the best of the night for the Belgian. He did manage to cause problems for the Arsenal defence at times, but he never looked like the old Hazard that the fans knew. He also wasted a couple of chances.

Alvaro Morata - 5

After having a disastrous outing from last week, Morata continued with the same performance. He was short on confidence and looked out of form.

Substitutions

Tiemoue Bakayoko - N/A

Willian - 5

Even though coming on in the 68th minute, Willian never got going in the game.

Michy Batshuayi - N/A
