#3 Goal drought continues for Timo Werner

It was another poor day at the office for Timo Werner, as he toiled in vain for most of the 90 minutes.

The Germany international badly fluffed his lines when he was played in by Christian Pulisic just before half-time, shooting straight at Fabianski when a more controlled first touch would have put him in a better position to score.

There were several other instances of poor decision-making from the Chelsea striker, and his performance on the night was symptomatic of a player struggling with confidence.

His only notable contribution was the assist for Tammy Abraham's goal, although this also tells another story, as it was a scoffed shot that was misdirected into the number 9's path.

The 24-year-old had shone brightly in the Bundesliga, leading to heightened expectations of his arrival in the Premier League. However, things have not gone to plan so far.

His blank here means that he has now gone nine games without finding the back of the net for Chelsea. Given the club's recent history with expensive strikers, fans of the side are well within their rights to start worrying.

#2 Tammy Abraham takes opportunity

While Timo Werner drew a blank, the man charged with leading the line got two goals to justify Lampard's decision to start him.

Coming into this game, Olivier Giroud was the form striker, with the France international having scored seven goals in his last four starts, including the opening goal against Wolves last weekend.

Despite this, Frank Lampard elected to leave him out of the starting line-up, and there would have been several bemused looks among fans when the teamsheet was named.

For most of the game, it looked like the Chelsea manager had made the wrong choices, as both Abraham and Werner struggled to get going and were on the peripheries for large parts of the game.

The England international, however, scored two late goals to bring his tally for the season to five and give Lampard more headache over who his starting striker should be.

#1 Chelsea show dominance from set-pieces yet again

Coming into this fixture, West Ham had yet to concede a goal direct from a set-piece. However, they lost that impressive statistic just 10 minutes into the clash.

Thiago Silva's header means that Chelsea have now scored eight goals from set-pieces this season, with three of those coming from a Mason Mount corner onto the head of a defender.

Set-pieces are an integral part of any team's attacking arsenal. Given Chelsea's new-found set-piece proficiency, opponents would do well to be wary of the threat they possess.
