Olivier Giroud was rewarded with a rare start against Leeds United after scoring four goals in the Champions League game at Sevilla in midweek. The Frenchman justified Frank Lampard's decision with another great showing, leading the Chelsea line with aplomb.

The striker scored his seventh goal of the season in all competitions to level proceedings for Chelsea after Leeds had taken a surprise lead.

In the process, Giroud became the first Chelsea player to score in six consecutive league starts since Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in October 2001. The Frenchman's hold-up play was great too, as he brought other teammates into the game.

With Giroud linked with a move away from Chelsea in recent weeks due to his desire for more game-time, he produced another performance to remind everyone of his qualities. Frank Lampard will hope to keep the striker at the club, as Chelsea look to challenge for trophies this season.

Kai Havertz made his first start in the Premier League after recovering from a bout of COVID-19. However, the midfielder started the game slow, struggling to get to the tempo of the game.

The German was dispossessed several times and was guilty of giving the ball away sloppily before Frank Lampard replaced him with Mateo Kovacic in the second half.

The midfielder has endured a slow start to his Chelsea career. There have been some encouraging performances, but a lot more is expected from the talented player.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man will hope to put this performance behind him in the coming weeks, and it is only a matter of time before Havertz starts putting his stamp on the Premier League.

Mason Mount was another Chelsea player who was rested in midweek. The midfielder looked off the pace in the early stages of the game; however, he began to exert his influence as the game progressed.

The midfielder was full of energy, as he put in another all-action performance. Mount made seven key passes, created two big chances and bagged an assist for Kurt Zouma in the second half.

The England international never stopped moving and continued to press Leeds United till the final whistle. Mount won the ball back and played in Timo Werner with a delightful through-ball in the final moments of the game.

This was another exceptional performance from Mount, who showed why he is amongst the first names in Lampard's team sheet.
