Ron Gourlay has hinted at more transfer activity for Chelsea

The signings of Willian and Samuel Eto’o in the last few days may have suggested an end to Chelsea‘s transfer activity for the summer, but it is not the case according to Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay.

The 2013 summer transfer window shuts down September 2, and Gourlay has just said that there could be a couple of departures from Stamford Bridge.

Speaking after the Champions League 2013-14 group stage draw, Gourlay said:

“We are always looking to strengthen the team and there could be one, maybe two, but we are looking at a couple maybe going out on loan to continue their development as we have a fairly big squad.”

It is more likely that the duo could Victor Moses and Demba Ba. Both look the odd man out after the arrivals of Willian and Eto’o. Moses was not even included in the squad for the UEFA Super Cup 2013 Bayern Munich vs Chelsea match.

Ba has been linked with a return to Newcastle on loan, while Moses is on the radar of Everton. Moses will also move on a loan deal, but he is likely to benefit from playing regularly under Roberto Martinez, who was his manager at Wigan before he came to Chelsea.

“I would expect maybe a little bit of activity in the next couple of days before the window closes, but the coach is very happy with the squad that he has at this present time,” he added.

Chelsea have been linked with FC Porto winger Christian Atsu. The 21-year-old could cost in the region of £3 million since he has only a year left on his contract, but it is difficult to see him getting into the first-team anytime soon. He is likely to be loaned out immediately.
