Frank Lampard has reportedly agreed to a one-year extension to remain at Chelsea, ending all speculation over the future of the club’s all time top goalscorer. It is also believed that the announcement regarding the same is to be made shortly.

Lampard will be captaining the Blues when they take on Benfica tomorrow in Amsterdam in the Europa League Final.

According to the Telegraph, the 34-year-old midfielder, who is not expected to start every game next season, is said to have lowered his financial demands to stay at the club, instead of moving anywhere else despite some expected offers. The news is expected to be welcomed by the Chelsea supporters and some of the neutral fans as well, as the Chelsea legend has been tremendous all season.

Lampard spoke to Telegraph about the summer of 2008 when he was about to leave Chelsea.

He said: “The closest was Inter Milan with Jose in 2008, the idea of challenging myself to do something different and going with him because he was such an influence on my career. In the end I wanted to stay for personal reasons, because of my mum and the attachment I have to Chelsea. That was the one time when I was close. It’s turned out to be the right decision. I am fortunate to be here.”

Lampard also spoke about Jose Mourinho and described him as the best manager he has worked with.

“He [Mourinho] was the first one I saw to have a particular way, he knew whether a player needed a leg up or a telling off. First and foremost it is about man management and how you get on with players. If you are a top-level manager you have top players, but getting the best out of them is the trick and it’s 70 per cent of the job.He formed a spirit among the team that was formidable. We didn’t have a group mentality to win the league but he brought that in.”
