There was news of another loan signing today and one that was totally expected even if the club he is moving to came out of nowhere today and confirmed very quickly. The player moving is Josh McEachran.
Josh’s loan moves have had a variety of success and most of it has not been particularly positive. A frustrating spell at Swansea in the Premier League was followed up last season with a move to Middlesbrough which in terms of appearances was far more impressive having made a total of 38 appearances for the Championship club even though he was solid if unremarkable while on loan there.
It was hoped this season that he would be able to kick on and a loan to last seasons Championship play off finalists Watford and their manager Gianfranco Zola was what Josh needed. However again things did not go for Josh how he wanted and with a combination of injury and struggling to get into the team he had only managed to make 7 appearances for Watford since the start of the season.
Upon returning to Chelsea at the beginning of January it was a given that the next move for Josh would be very important for the young man and it is Wigan that has been chosen as the destination for the remainder of the season. Wigan is a team that has scope for Josh to find a place for himself in their starting eleven and their new manager Uwe Rosler is a manager Chelsea have worked with when he was at Brentford earlier in the season and had George Saville under his charge.
It certainly has the feeling that this is a big move for Josh if he has hopes of still playing for Chelsea at some point in the future and he still has time on his side at only 20 years of age but he needs to make a big impression in a loan move and hopefully this will be that loan move.
