Chelsea have reportedly made a £16 million offer for Nigeria international striker Emmanuel Emenike, according to the Metro.

They are reportedly hoping to wrap up a deal quickly for the Fenerbahce hit man.

The Turkish newspaper Fanatik have reported that Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the Nigerian forward, and decided to make a bid for him having watched him this week in the World Cup.

Emenike helped Nigeria reach the knockout stages of the World Cup, which they managed despite losing 3-2 to Argentina yesterday. The Nigerian has had a good season for Fenerbahce, managing 12 goals and nine assists for them.

He only moved to Fenerbahce last summer from Spartak Moscow for £10 million, but the Turkish club are happy to make a quick profit from him.

Emenike has previously stated that he is desperate to join a Premier League club in the future, which suggests there would be very few barriers to a switch if a transfer fee can be agreed.

He said: “I have always dreamed of playing in England.

“If I get the opportunity to play in England – I wouldn’t turn it down.”

Chelsea look set to overhaul their striking choices this summer, with Diego Costa set to join and the likes of Romelu Lukaku possible departures.
