What’s the rumour?

Chelsea are interested in signing Olivier Giroud as per reports in the Daily Mail. The Blues are keen on taking the Frenchman on loan until the end of the season according to the report.

The Daily Mail claim that they will only move for him if a deal for Edin Dzeko fails. Premium Sport reported that the move was in the balance as the striker wants a 2.5-year contract but Chelsea have only offered a 1.5-year deal.

In case you didn’t know…

Chelsea have been on the hunt for a target man this month and have been linked with a lot of Premier League strikers. It all started with the Telegraph reporting Chelsea's interest in Andy Carroll, before the Daily Mail suggested that the interest had shifted to Christian Benteke.

BBC then revealed Chelsea's interest in signing Peter Crouch. However, it was Edin Dzeko who has been linked with the Blues for some time now.

Rumour rating/probability: 2/10

It is difficult to see Arsenal sending a player out on loan to Chelsea. The two London clubs are fighting to finish in the top 4 and there is absolutely no chance the Gunners will allow this deal go through.

Arsenal are 5 points behind Liverpool and 8 points behind Chelsea, who currently sit 4th and 3rd on the league table, respectively. The Gunners have a good chance of edging the two clubs to a top 4 finish, but only if they sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Author’s take

Chelsea need a striker but there is no way they are going to get Giroud on loan. If they are desperate to sign him, they might have to buy him and that will cost them a lot. The Gunners will do their best to stop the Frenchman from joining the Blues, but if he forces a move, they might have to let him go.
