Chelsea are set for a fight with AC Milan over the signature of Wolfsburg’s Swiss international full back Ricardo Rodriguez. The Mirror report that both sides are interested in a move for the left back, who has yet to miss a minute of the German side’s Bundesliga season so far.

Jose Mourinho is known to be in the market for a left back as a long term successor to 32-year-old Ashley Cole. Cesar Azpilicueta has been filling in in recent weeks, but is more comfortable on the right hand side of defence, and Mourinho has yet to trust Ryan Bertrand with a run in the side.

If he is to sign Rodriguez then Mourinho will have to wait until the summer, and will also have to beat off interest from Milan. Wolfsburg are currently fifth in the Bundesliga and are keen to keep hold of Rodriguez until the end of the season in order to help their push for a Champions League place.

Twenty-one year old Rodriguez has 19 international caps for Switzerland and is an attacking full back with an eye for goal. He has already scored three goals this season, the latest of which came in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Stuttgart.
