Chelsea are set to be handed a massive boost as Diego Costa, and Thibaut Courtois are set to sign new contracts and extend their stay with the South West London club. The development comes as quite a surprise, as not so long ago both the players were open to a move away from the SW6 in search of greener pastures.

Their remarkable turnaround says a lot about the kind of effect new manager; Antonio Conte has had on the players. With both the players believing that moving back to Spain would be the best career decisions they could make, the Italian has done a great job in a little more than four months.

Atletico Madrid had made their intentions very clear by trying to re-sign the 28-year-old striker on more than one occasion. However, with the Spanish club's dwindling form and Diego Simeone's future itself in question, it looks like they've voluntarily pulled themselves out of the race. Thibaut Courtois, on the other hand, has been subjected to quite a bit of interest from Real Madrid, and the goalkeeper was criticised for not making his intentions clear.

However, when he was recently asked about a possible move to Real Madrid, he only had one answer for the press. "I am good where I am. I am very happy at Chelsea."

Spanish striker, Diego Costa was handed a contract worth £150,000 pounds a week upon signing from Atletico Madrid and is set to earn £50,000 more if he is to extend his current deal. Courtois meanwhile signed a new contract after returning from his three-year loan in Atletico and is set to earn £150,000 a week if he chooses to extend his deal as well.

Both the players are halfway through their five-year deals signed in 2014, and there isn't any rush to put pen to paper yet. Negotiations are expected to open up by the end of New Year. Diego Costa is playing some of his best football at the moment, as he leads the Premier League goalscoring charts with ten goals. Courtois, meanwhile, has kept six successive clean sheets and has been unbeaten for 590 minutes. The tall Belgian will have no qualms over his current playing situation as well.

The two should now be preparing to face London rivals Tottenham, with the club’s current form in the Premier League quite exemplary. With nine wins and two losses, the club sits on top of the table with one point over second placed Liverpool.
