According to reports, Chelsea have their eyes set on Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini to replace Rafael Benitez as their manager this summer.

It is believed that despite the wholehearted efforts of Real coach Jose Mourinho to get back to his former club, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was not very convinced about bringing him back to Stamford Bridge. Mourinho is expected to leave Real Madrid this summer.

However, the Chelsea owner would have liked Rafael Benítez to continue as the manager of the club. He even sought the opinions of his main players and staff on whether it would be fine if Benitez remains in charge for the next season.

But citing the hostile attitude of the Chelsea supporters, the Spaniard himself said that he would leave the club by the end of the season.

Although Abramovich is quite content with Benitez’s work after he took over as the club’s manager from Roberto Di Matteo last November, Chelsea supporters are unable to accept him as the coach.

Pellegrini, being a disciplinarian with a commitment to attacking football, would do well in Chelsea. His ability to deal with big-name players and to speak English fluently further adds to his advantage.

But the Chilean is 59 years old, which may be a stumbling block. However, the most significant challenge for Chelsea is to persuade him to leave Malaga.
