Chelsea star admits World Cup fears

England midfielder Frank Lampard has admitted he is uncertain if he will be on the plane to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup next summer.

The 35-year-old revealed his fears that despite his 103 caps for England, he is no longer a permanent fixture in Roy Hodgson’s plans for the future.

“If I walked around thinking my 103 caps would get me on the plane I would probably be on the beach,” Lampard said. ”That means you are taking things for granted and I don’t think any of us can afford to do that.”

However, Lampard says he will continue to knuckle down and perform for the Three Lions, beginning with tonight’s friendly with Chile and next week’s clash against Germany.

“I think what we’ve done up to now carries a bit of weight, some more than others, but if your form is not good enough in what is quite a big period of time, we are talking six or seven months until May when our season finishes, then we have to accept that.”

Lampard is set to start tonight’s game and will receive a commemorative golden cap to mark his century of appearances for England over the years – which will be presented by World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst before kick-off.

The Chelsea midfielder has been an ever-present in their 11 games so far, creating 13 chances for his team-mates and gaining one assist to his name.
