Chelsea’s transfer activity took another interesting turn on Tuesday as theDaily Star write that the London club are looking at signing Jose Callejon.

The Napoli winger, 27, would cost £26 million according to the report

Callejon played under Mourinho at Real Madrid but, like the Portuguese boss, left in the summer in an £8 million move to Napoli. The Spanish young international has flourished under former Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez, scoring 14 league goals and registering five assists in Serie A.

Callejon’s versatility in that he can play on the wing or upfront is said to be an attraction for Mourinho as he looks to bolster his squad for another push at the Premier League title. The report suggests that Chelsea would be willing to double Callejon’s wages in order to persuade him to join the Champions League semi-finalists.

The fact that the winger has provided such a goal threat without playing upfront will surely tempt Mourinho, who has often criticised his team’s lack of firepower this season. Despite an early season flourish only Eden Hazard ended the season in double figures for Chelsea and Mourinho will want to address that.

Chelsea have also been linked with 16-goal Hoffenheim attacker Roberto Firmino.

Only Gonzalo Higuain (17) scored more league goals for Napoli this season than Jose Callejon (14).
