Chelsea have received an injury boost following the news that striker Fernando Torres has returned to full training as he steps up his recovery from a knee injury, reports the Daily Star.

The Spaniard, who was initially due to be out for up to a month, has made a quick recovery since limping off during the West Londoners 3-1 victory over Manchester United in January and should be fit to play within a week or so.

Despite Samuel Eto’o’s hat trick in the Manchester United game the Blues’ front line has been a cause for concern for boss Jose Mourinho this season. The Cameroonian has failed to settle in England while Demba Ba has been confined to the bench, although the club blocked his proposed move to Turkish side Trabzonspor due to Torres’ injury.

The former Liverpool forward, who joined Stamford Bridge in a £50 million deal has also struggled for form during the current campaign, but his return will still provide a huge boost to Chelsea’s title hopes.

Despite Mourinho’s insistence that his side should not be considered as contenders for the Premier League crown they are just two points off top spot and level on points with Manchester City ahead of their clash with Newcastle on Saturday.
