David Luiz has been reborn under Maurizio Sarri following his fall down the pecking order under Antonio Conte last season. However, reports suggest that the Blues might reap the benefits of his rise for a very short span of time.

According to The Times via Express, the Brazilian wants to leave because of Chelsea's policy to offer only one-year contract extensions to players aged 30 or above.

Maurizio Sarri has already requested the club to change this policy but it seems his pleas have fallen on deaf ears. Speaking about the matter, he said:

"I spoke with the club about this one month ago. I know very well that it's not easy, but I think we can do a new deal for both[Luiz and Fabregas]."
"They are very important players for us. It is very difficult to find a centre-back for this level and it is very difficult to find a centre-midfielder technically like Fabregas, so I think they have to stay with us."
"The deal is very difficult for this reason [both players are over 30 years of age]. The club wants a short contract and the players want a long contract."
"It is difficult for this reason but I think we can find a solution."

David Luiz has made 17 Premier League appearances for Chelsea under Maurizio Sarri, after being dropped from the squad by Antonio Conte last season.
