Chelsea transfer news: Antonio Conte looking to hijack Alexis Sanchez move, Premier League striker already dreaming of Chelsea move and more - 16th January 2018

Stoke City v Arsenal - Premier League
New twist in the tale?

The January transfer window is heating up with each passing day and so is the patience of Antonio Conte over the club's transfer policy. Chelsea have been linked with a number of players but until now, only one player has signed on the dotted line - Ross Barkley.

On that note, let's take a look at all the transfer stories concerning Chelsea that made the news on 16th January 2018:

Chelsea set to hijack Alexis Sanchez deal

A late advancement last night revealed that Manchester City have pulled out of the race to sign Alexis Sanchez. The wantaway star has become the talk of the town this January and Sky Sports have now reported that Chelsea are the latest club to register an interest in the 29-year old.

The Chilean seems to have attracted the attention of Antonio Conte who is desperate to land some reinforcements for his attacking department.

Recently, Conte had revealed that he tried to sign Sanchez at Juventus when the winger was plying his trade at Udinese, as per reports in the Metro. Chelsea will need to match Manchester United's offer of £35 million plus a weekly wage of £400,000 to be in contention for landing Sanchez.

Chelsea have hijacked deals from their league rivals in the past, with the example of Willian being the most recent example. But, the Blues will need to act fast as Manchester United are reportedly close to agreeing personal terms with Sanchez and are in the process of making him the highest paid player in the Premier League, as per the Independent.

Sevilla want Michy Batshuayi on loan

Sevilla-
Sevilla-bound?

According to ESPN, Sevilla are confident of landing Michy Batshuayi on a six-month loan deal before the deadline day. The Spanish side are looking to bolster their striking options with their side currently lacking confidence in front of goal.

Sevilla believe that Michy Batshuayi can prove to be a smart signing for them despite the Belgian forward failing to land a starting spot for the Blues, and in general, not impressing with his short cameos. Batshuayi is hungry for chances to impress after starting just two league games this season.

Conte is believed to be open to letting Batshuayi leave on a loan spell only if the Blues are going to sign an able deputy for Alvaro Morata at Stamford Bridge. There has been no indication from Sevilla to sign Batshuayi permanently, which may work in Chelsea's favour for the next season if the striker hits a rich vein of form in Spain.

Andy Carroll's head turned by Chelsea's interest

West Ham United v Arsenal - Premier League
Carroll is already dreaming of life in South London

West Ham United are fearing the worst at the moment as the club hierarchy believe that Andy Carroll has set his sights on playing for the reigning champions. The Daily Mirror reports that Chelsea have requested West Ham for a short loan spell for the towering striker.

Carroll is eager for a second chance at a top club after failing due to bloated expectations at Liverpool. The tabloid claims that the 29-year-old striker is reportedly already dreaming of playing in the UEFA Champions League and has his head turned by Chelsea's interest.

Carroll is currently nursing an ankle injury and is a doubt for tonight's FA Cup replay against Shrewsbury Town.

West Ham United are keen on to keep a hold of the striker for the remainder of the season and only a huge monetary offer from the Blues will bring in a change of heart for the Hammers.
