What is the Story?

Barcelona are back with a revised bid for Chelsea winger Willian, according to The Sun.

In case you didn’t know…

Willian has featured regularly for Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea team this season. He has played 52 games for the London outfit while scoring 8 goals and assisting another 14. Willian, 30, joined Chelsea back in 2013 for £30 million, when Jose Mourinho famously hijacked Spurs deal for the Brazilian winger. Since joining, he has helped Chelsea to secure 2 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, and 1 League Cup.

The heart of the matter

Barcelona have reportedly made an offer of 30 million for the Brazilian winger. He has been a long-term target for the Catalan giants, who also had an approach rejected last summer before having another attempt in January. Barca’s earlier bid of £50million - which included Malcom heading the other way - was rejected in January by Chelsea.

Willian only has 1 year left on his contract and has failed to agree on a new deal. Barcelona will pile on the pressure on Chelsea with their offer as they know the London outfit risks losing the Brazilian for free next summer. It looks like his 6 years stay with Chelsea is finally coming to an end.

Chelsea are well placed to reach the Europa League final following Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.

Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri, seemed satisfied with the result.

‘After 25 minutes we started to play. We played very well for 35 minutes in the second half, so I think in the end we deserved the win – but 1-1 away is not so bad.’
‘I think we deserved a second goal. We had three or four opportunities. We could have scored more.’
‘We need to be careful [in the second leg]. We need to play with the same mentality. They are very dangerous, especially with Jovic. They are dynamic and very aggressive.’

What's ahead?

Chelsea are also fighting for the remaining top-4 position in the Premier League to ultimately qualify for the Champions League next season. They can also win the Europa League to qualify for Champions League but will most probably face Arsenal in the final who won their first leg tie against Valencia 3-1.
