Dynamo Moscow executive director Roman Dyakov has revealed his club’s interest in Chelsea left back Yuri Zhirkov. He however reiterated that Dynamo won’t pay over the odds for the player and will resist from matching excessively outrageous offers from the likes of Rubin Kazan and Anzhi Makhachkala.

Zhirkov looking for Dynamo escape route

Dynamo have been linked with Zhirkov for a long time now but have refused to acknowledge the connection thus far. But Dyakov has now admitted that Dynamo are in for the marauding full back.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said-

“Of course, Yuri would be an ideal choice to the left side of the Dynamo midfield and we would be glad to hear if he said he would like to join us very much.”

He exercised caution over the move and said that Dynamo would struggle to compete financially with their fellow teams in the Russian League who were also after Zhirkov. He remained adamant that Dynamo won’t break the bank for the player and ‘explode onto the transfer market’. He said-

“But fighting hand to hand for a transfer and overbid someone’s offer – Dynamo won’t do this. Don’t expect us to explode the transfer market.”

“Almost all clubs from the Russian Premier League are interested in the signing of Zhirkov,”

“By now we haven’t contacted neither Chelsea nor the player. It can be suspected how much Anzhi [Makhachkala] or Rubin [Kazan] offered for the player so we know what his price may be around.”

Zhirkov started his Chelsea career with some solid performances but his star has since waned to a great extent. He found breaking into the first team very tough last season and was relegated to a place on the bench for major parts of the year. The 27 year old, who formerly played for Russian side CSKA Moscow, is believed to be searching for an escape route and Dynamo Moscow might well provide that for him.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea get a satisfactory bid and consider selling Zhirkov, or if he spends the next season on the bench as well. Stay tuned for more in this regard.
