Cristiano Ronaldo honoured with new Nike boots while teammates bake him a special Ballon d'Or cake

Cristiano Ronaldo won his second consecutive Ballon d’Or yesterday

Real Madrid are currently experiencing a dream season with the reigning European champions unbeaten in all competitions since April as they head to Japan to play in the Club World Cup. Cristiano Ronaldo's Ballon d'Or award was an icing on the cake as Los Blancos were given the happy news last night when their talisman gained the recognition of being the world's best player of 2016.

To celebrate his deserved accolade, Nike honoured Ronaldo by releasing new boots in his name to commemorate his brilliant feat while his teammates presented him with a Ballon d'Or cake in training.

The 31-year old had a glorious year where he won club honours as well as international honours in the form of the Euro 2016. With his award on Monday, Cristiano Ronaldo is just one gong behind eternal rival Lionel Messi. Nike, Ronaldo's sponsor, released a limited-edition pair of Mercurial Superfly CR7 Vitorias to celebrate his achievement. This beautiful pair of boots is said to be available for sale in early 2017.

Real Madrid are currently in Japan training for the Club World Cup with their first game against Club America of Mexica scheduled for tonight. Before training today, captain Sergio Ramos presented Ronaldo with a cake which was in the shape of a Ballon d'Or crown to congratulate him on his well-deserved victory.

Though Lionel Messi had scored more goals and produced more assists than Ronaldo in 2016, it was his success in the major tournament finals which paved the final decision in his way.

After winning the 2016 Balon d'Or, the Portuguese modestly stated, "In my head, I have always considered myself to be different from the others. So, I believed that I could be the best player in the world. I never imagined winning this trophy four times. I'm really happy and fulfilled.

“When it's the first time, the emotion is always special. But I I feel today like I did in 2008. I have the opportunity to thank all of my team-mates, the national team, Real Madrid, all of the people and players who helped me to win this individual award," he added.
