Speaking about the winning penalty, Ronaldo said:

"My heart was pounding as I stepped up to take it as I knew that it could be the decisive kick. At the same time I was confident of scoring and helping Real Madrid to their eleventh European Cup".

The three-time Ballon d’Or also heaped praise on Zidane and his tactics. He spoke about his delight at having Zidane as the manager:

"Zidane was key last season for us. After his arrival he made us work harder and more efficiently. He's a great professional and an excellent person. In my opinion, the tranquility he transmits to the players is one of his key strengths. What coach wins the Champions League just six months after taking over a team? Zidane deserves a huge amount of credit and I'm delighted he's with us".
