#3 Salvation for Dalic at Euro 2020

Dalic has been the manager of Croatia since 2017 and famously led the side to the World Cup final the following year.

His decision to drop main men Ante Rebic, Andrej Kramaric and Sime Vrsaljko for their Euro 2020 match against Scotland raised a few eyebrows. But ultimately it proved to be the right decision.

Bruno Petkovic and Nikola Vlasic started against Croatia in place of Rebic and Kramaric respectively. Only Perisic kept his place in attack from Croatia's last game.

Coming into this crunch Euro 2020 clash, Petkovic and Vlasic had only 41 appearances combined for the national team.

Josip Juranovic, who started at right-back ahead of Vrsaljko, made just his ninth international appearance. The Atletico Madrid defender, in comparison, had 51 caps to his name.

However, all three players put in fantastic shifts on the night. Petkovic was a constant threat to makeshift centre-back McTominay, while Vlasic gave Croatia the lead with just his sixth goal for his country. Juranovic did not put a foot wrong all game and sent in the cross which led to the opener.

#2 Scotland once again flounder on the big stage

Scotland's qualification for Euro 2020 was their first for a major tournament in over 20 years. Steve Clarke's men had to go through the playoffs to qualify for the group stage itself.

The side were hoping to avoid another group stage exit and at least advance to the Round of 16. However, they fell short once again.

Scotland have never advanced from their group in a major tournament. Their Euro 2020 exit against Croatia was the 11th group stage exit in the nation's history.

It is a rather unpleasant record for a country that has produced names like Kenny Dalglish, Dennis Law and Graeme Souness amongst others. Scotland will be looking to end their losing trend at the World Cup next year. But yet another tough qualifying round awaits them if they are to qualify for the 2022 showpiece after their early Euro 2020 exit.

#1 Luka Modric puts in a performance of the highest quality

Luka Modric has been one of Croatia's better players at Euro 2020 so far. However, many felt that he had failed to make enough of an impact in their first two games. The Croats desperately needed their skipper to step up against Scotland.

The 35-year-old used all his experience to put up a midfield masterclass in Croatia's final Euro 2020 group stage match. Modric had the most touches and passes on the pitch as his side constantly fed him the ball.

The Real Madrid midfielder did not disappoint as he was the orchestrator of the crisp passing of the Croatians. His nifty footwork and excellent vision were far too much for the Scots to handle.

Modric also gave his side the lead in the second half, scoring a brilliant curler with the outside of his right foot. He also provided the assist for his team's third goal with a well-taken corner.

The Croatian skipper's performance against Scotland was highly reminiscent of his performances at the 2018 World Cup, which fetched him the Ballon d'Or.

If Modric can carry this form into the Euro 2020 knockout stages, the Croatians will be a threat to any team left in the competition.
