Boris Nemec, the Croatia national team head doctor has pointed the finger towards Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti for Luka Modric’s most recent injury that is set to keep him out for six weeks. Nemec believes that Modric should have been protected more by Ancelotti following his return from a nearly 4-month long hiatus from football due to knee problems.

Speaking to Nova TV, the doctor said, “Ancelotti didn't spare Luka at all after he returned from his long-term injury.”

“He played 90 minutes in every match. Ancelotti had put Modric under a lot of pressure, instead of giving him time little by little.”

He added, “Modric didn't get injured because of knock he received but because he wasn't 100 percent ready.”

"If he hadn't been overworked, his lower leg wouldn't go to the side in that tackle and crack."

Modric’s injury could mean that he will be out for the rest of Real Madrid’s season. In addition to missing the crucial midfielder, Madrid may also have to do without the services of Gareth Bale as he recovers from a calf strain.

These injuries will not please the Galacticos going into an important period of the season for them. The second leg of their Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid looms as they look to pressure Barcelona into slipping up their 2-point lead at the top of the La Liga table.
