Jose Mourinho delivered his usual funny response on Instagram as he missed out on a mini Chelsea reunion in Cote d'Ivoire. The former Chelsea boss commented on a photo posted online of Mikel John Obi, Didier Drogba, and Salomon Kalou.

Retired Nigerian international Mikel Obi was in Cote d'Ivoire for the first time in his life as he was invited to the country. The 36-year-old was to be one of the draw assistants for the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations draw held in the West African country.

Upon his arrival in the country, the former midfielder called out his former teammates Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou, and they had a reunion. Mikel and Kalou had recently been pictured together at the Chelsea Legends game against Bayern Munich Legends in August, where Drogba was absent.

The man who brought all three to Chelsea, Jose Mourinho, was not to be left out as he enjoyed a cheeky moment with them. Mikel Obi posted a photo of himself seated at a table with Kalou and Drogba and captioned it with a funny remark about their country.

“Still no statues but watch out!”

For context, he had jokingly said that he expected to be greeted by statues of the Ivorian duo upon his arrival in the country.

Mourinho was in the comment section after seeing three of his beloved former players together, implying that he was missing out on the event.

“Daddy is missing!!!! You rich guys can enjoy holiday time.”

The AS Roma boss had a special relationship with his players at Stamford Bridge, helping them become cult heroes at the club and earning accolades.

Chelsea remains a beloved club to Jose Mourinho

It was at Chelsea that a young Jose Mourinho declared himself as the 'Special One' before even winning a trophy. He is remembered as one of the most iconic managers in the club's history due to his successful spell in charge and his relationship with the fans.

Mourinho left the club first in 2007, and then in 2015 midway through a disastrous campaign only surpassed by the 2022-23 season. The 60-year-old, however, revealed in an interview with Sky Sports last year that he has his family home 200 metres from Stamford Bridge.

Now in charge of AS Roma, he remains very fond of his time at Stamford Bridge, and his bond with his players at the time remains strong too. He led the Blues to great success, winning three Premier League titles and multiple cups across two spells.
