David Albelda retires from Valencia CF

David Albelda, according to recent reports, has confirmed that he will not be renewing his contract with the Valencia CF.

David, who was an integral part of the club ever since he broke into the first team in 1997-98, not only belongs to one of the ‘Best Club in the World”, as recorded in 2004, but is also a member of their best ever XI, according to club magazine AMUNT.

Highly regarded as a player with an impeccable vision, tactics and leadership ability, he soon became one of the best players to ever don the black and white Valencia CF uniform, with the help of his impressive personality, grit and natural talent.

As a captain, he has led Valencia to glory in two consecutive Champions League finals. With a total of three hundred and fifty one caps to his credit, he is the player with the third highest amount of La Liga appearances.

He is also the player to win the most top flight games, with a total of 178. He was part of the team that won the silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The illustrious player was also part of the squads that won two La Liga titles (2001-02 and 2003-04), one Copa del Rey (2007-08), one Spanish Supercup (1999), one UEFA Cup (2003-04) and one European Supercup (2004).
