David Luiz: A valuable part of the Chelsea team

Erratic, laboured, prone to mistakes and plays like being controlled by a 10-year old on PlayStation, David Luiz has been criticised from all angles. However, I believe he has become invaluable to Jose Mourinho!

Once again, Luiz is being linked with Barcelona as they look to rebuild in the summer with a centre back and goalkeeper high on their list of priorities. The link to Luiz has been apparent for a couple of seasons now and refused to go away despite the player himself recently speaking of how lucky he is to play for Chelsea.

Luiz said:

“I love to play for Chelsea, I love to play football, it doesn’t matter if I play in midfield or defence.

I’m just lucky to play for a big club and it’s nice when you can play with very good players like [Nemanja] Matic.”

Of course that quote came from Luiz straight after our victory against Manchester City as Luiz played pushed further forward into midfield and played the holding role next to Matic.

That night as with all the players involved, Luiz was outstanding and demonstrated his willingness to work hard, to play for the team and for the manager.

Luiz hardly put a foot wrong all night and played with a massive amount of discipline. There was one moment in the game in particular. He won the ball and came forward mid-way through the City half and played the ball wide left to Eden Hazard. Now, it would be tempting for Luiz to carry on his run off the ball and into the box but once he gave the ball to Hazard, he stopped, and moved backwards back into his position next to Matic.

David Luiz offers Jose Mourinho options and that is a massive bonus when it comes to putting a squad together or building a squad capable of challenging for the title. As with Ramires and Oscar, Mourinho knows that he can play him in a number of positions to do a job for the team.

So getting back to these latest reports that Barcelona have identified Luiz as the man they want to take to the Nou Camp I simply cannot see it happening unless the player himself asks for a move away.

The reports state that Barcelona only value Luiz at around £22m which would be rejected out of hand by Chelsea purely because of what we paid for him and his net worth now.

Then there is the relationship the Mourinho has with the Catalan side which isn’t exactly the best, so why would he want to do business with them?

However, I believe that David Luiz, as the season has moved forward, has adapted to the Mourinho way, has worked hard at his game and now has become invaluable to the manager this season and beyond.

What do you people think of Luiz under Mourinho?
