Deco handed one-year ban for doping violation

Deco faces a one-year ban from football

Former Chelsea and Barcelona midfielder Deco has been banned for a year by the Superior Court of Sports Justice for violating doping rules, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

The Portugal international, who retired from football earlier this summer after spending three years with Fluminense, was tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide and cardoxy-tamoxifen following the match against Boavista on March 30, 2013.

The 36-year-old, who was originally banned for a month after being tested positive in the month of march, is now prohibited from entering the playing field for a duration of one year.

However, it is not expected to have any effect on him as he has already called quits on his glittering football career which saw him win two Champions League titles, first with FC Porto in 2004 and then with FC Barcelona in 2006. Deco has also won league titles with four different teams.
