Demba Ba: Would you start him tomorrow for Chelsea?

Newcastle United v Wigan Athletic - Premier League

Chelsea fans this morning have woken up receiving official confirmation that the club has completed the signing of Demba Ba from Newcastle for around £7-£7.5m. The question to ask is:

Should Rafa Benitez throw him straight into the action and give him a start against Southampton in the place of Fernando Torres?

As usual, there are things to consider here. Torres needs a rest and that is clear, whether he likes it or not. He has virtually played every single game so far this season apart from one or two, and a couple of games off would do him the world of good.

As for Demba Ba, he would have had only one training session with the players ahead of the game tomorrow. Is that enough time or is it now just a case of start the game and get on with it?

One thing has been clear for Chelsea fans this season in particular games where we have struggled. We have lacked a “Plan B” or a different option up front, especially after Didier Drogba left the club.

The other night against QPR, it was obvious that they were defending deep and more than happy to allow Chelsea to have the ball in front of them. Torres couldn’t get free and make runs in behind their defenders because of how deep their defensive line was.

We needed to change things up and a powerhouse like Ba would have given us and their defence a different option and something to think about.

For me he starts without question, but what do the rest of you think?

Here is a video posted on YouTube called - “Demba Ba – Welcome to Chelsea” and it shows us exactly what he will offer us as a Chelsea player.
