Chelsea boss, Di Matteo has stated that he is not being forced to play attractive football and would not hesitate to use the same negative tactics that won Chelsea their first Champions League.

“Everybody would like to play like Barcelona, but there isn’t another team in the world who plays like them,”

“It’s a culture, a way of life, a style they’ve produced through the club for many, many years.

“The aim for a lot of teams and clubs is to get there but, as far as I’m concerned, there isn’t one who can play the way Barcelona can. And there’s only one Lionel Messi around.”

He also highlighted his ambition as far as the tactics are concerned while being Chelsea’s manager.

“I’m not preaching that we’ll be this or that,” he said. “We’re going to try to win in the way we’re capable of.

“We’ll have some good games, I’m sure. But I wouldn’t say that other teams play consistently attractive football over the whole season. It’s quite difficult. You’ll have some games better than others.

“Certainly, with the influence of the new players, they will be a bit different once they are integrated because they have different characteristics and abilities to the other players.

“But I don’t think you can expect a completely different Chelsea overnight. The majority of the team are still here and with those players the club have been very successful already. So don’t expect radical changes.”

A win against City at Villa park can go a long way, as Chelsea look to start brightly while undergoing a transition. Seven trophies are in contention for the European champions and the Community Shield could be a start in winning all of them.

“Our biggest aim, or our ambition, is to be able to be challenging at the right end of the season for the trophies that are still available. We certainly have to do better in the Premier League.”

He also spoke about John Terry and how the Chelsea skipper would lead out his team.

“John has dealt with situations like this before in the past, and dealt with it very well,” he said. “So I have no concerns about his state of mind.”
