Eden Hazard doubtful for Champions League semifinal and Liverpool clash

Eden Hazard injury PSG

Eden Hazard substituted against PSG after getting injured

The possible absence of Eden Hazard for the Champions League semifinal and a likely title decider against Liverpool at Anfield will be a major concern for Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

Eden Hazard has been Chelsea’s best attacking source this season and is also arguably their best player. With crucial games coming up, Jose Mourinho will hope that the calf injury that Hazard sustained during the 2-0 defeat of Paris St-Germain is not too severe.

Hazard came off after only 18 minutes and Schurrle took his place as Mourinho didn’t want to risk the injury further.

Mourinho confirmed after the match that Hazard had suffered a muscular injury that will take weeks to heal, with the initial prognoses that he could be out for two-three weeks putting his availability for the Blues’ three biggest games of the season so far in jeopardy.

Chelsea have pivotal games coming up with a trip to Anfield sandwiched between the two Champions League semi-final legs. The draw for the same is going to take place on Friday with the matches taking place in a fortnight in the week of April 22-23.

Though Chelsea fans had feared they were on the brink of a Champions League exit at the hands of PSG after Hazard got substituted, Andre Schurrle, the man who replaced him, played a vital role in a famous comeback against the French champions.

Hazard will have two weeks to recover for the first leg of the semi-final in what seems to be a gripping game no matter who they face.
