Major Honours in calendar year:

Hazard’s most notable honour this calendar year will have been his involvement in Chelsea’s Europa League success. The Blues secured their first ever trophy in this tournament, following a 2-1 victory over Benfica, at the Amsterdam Arena.

His inclusion in the 2012-13 Premier League team of the year is another honour worth mentioning. He was included in this side alongside Juan Mata, Luis Suarez, Robin Van Persie and Gareth Bale. His performances throughout the previous campaign were notably impressive. With nine goals in 34 appearances, Hazard registered a performance score of 1413 points.

Why he deserves his nomination

At just 22, Hazard is one of the youngest players to receive a nomination for this year’s award. He has shown huge potential ever since his move to the Premier League and his impressive form throughout the past two seasons is a positive sign for Chelsea and the club’s fans.

Does he have a chance of winning?

Against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale? No. Although Hazard is showing encouraging signs in terms of his development, he hasn’t done anywhere near enough in the past year to be considered as the best player on the planet.
