What’s the rumour?

Edin Dzeko has rejected Chelsea's contract offer according to Premium Sport. The publication claims that it's the contract length that has made the Bosnian rebuff the move to Stamford Bridge.

Calciomercato have added to the story and said that Chelsea offered the striker a 1.5-year contract and that was not acceptable for the AS Roma star. He wants to get a 2.5-year or a 3.5-year contract as per the report.

Matt Law from the Telegraph, however, states that the Chelsea have not given up on the striker. The report also claims that Chelsea will not wait until the final days of the transfer window for Roma to make a decision on Dzeko.

In case you didn’t know…

Chelsea have had a £44 million bid for Emerson Palmieri and Edin Dzeko reportedly accepted by AS Roma. The Blues were confident of sealing the deal but the move has stalled because of the contract issue with the striker.

Telegraph claim that Emerson has already agreed a deal to join Chelsea. He has been offered a four-a-and-a-half-year contract worth £80,000-a-week and is all set to move to Stamford Bridge.

Rumour probability/rating: 7/10

Similarly, Di Marzio has also reported that Dzeko's transfer has been stalled because of the contract talks, but is expected to resume today. Should a deal be agreed, the striker could be moving to Chelsea on Monday or Tuesday.

Author’s take

Dzeko will be, without doubt, an upgrade on Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian has been woeful whenever he has been called on and Conte is right to bench him. The manager will be happy to get the striker and this move might signal the end of Batshuayi's future at Chelsea too.
