Emmanuel Adebayor: Real Madrid Is The Only Thing On My Mind

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has insisted that the only thing on his mind currently is playing for Real Madrid, and he is prepared to wait for as long as it takes until Madrid make their decision. He gave Los Blancos a glowing review after his six months there and said that Mourinho was one of the best coaches he had ever worked under.

Adebayor is waiting for Madrid to make a decision

Adebayor spent the second half of last season on loan at the Bernabeu, and scored eight goals in 22 appearances. He gelled in well with the team and also won the Copa del Ray against Barcelona, his only piece of silverware in his career so far.

Speaking to Spanish media outlet Marca, he said that he was fully focused on playing for Madrid and would patiently wait for them to make an informed decision. He said-

“I am waiting. I am clear about what I want. The only thing I have in my head is playing for Real Madrid,”

“We have to wait. I’m clear that I want to play for Real Madrid and I will wait until the last day. I am not going to sign for any club until August 31. I will wait for them until the very last day, until 11:00 at night. If by then, Madrid have decided not to buy me, then I will look for another team.”

He also revealed that he had a very good relationship with Jose Mourinho, and that the Portuguese had told him that he was part of Real Madrid’s plans for next season. He justified his loan spell, claiming that he had given it his all during the six months in Madrid, and would continue to do so if given another chance.

“Mourinho told me he would do whatever he could for me to return. We had a good relationship and I believe he was happy with me. I believe I’m an option [for Madrid]. I honestly think I left a good taste in the mouth there. I arrived for six months and I gave everything for that white shirt. I integrated quickly, I played and I scored goals. I fulfilled in my work, although I have more to give.”

“It’s not easy to adapt to such a big club as Real Madrid in such a short time and that took its toll. If I had a second opportunity I am sure I would do much better, because I know the club from within, the city, my team-mates”

About Mourinho, he said-

“With Mourinho I learned a lot,”

“ ‘Mou’ is the best coach I have ever had. To give you an idea, I have worked with Wenger, Mancini, Deschamps, but Mourinho is different.

“He is a father to all of us. He trains us and takes care of us off the field. Very few coaches care about your personal life. As well as being the best coach, he is a friend you can go to if you have a problem.”

It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid decide to take Adebayor and City up on their offer and buy him on a permanent deal, or if the Togolese remains a forlorn figure at City next season.
