German legend Bastian Schweinsteiger has announced on Twitter that Manchester United will be his last European club. Schweinsteiger joined Manchester United from Bayern Munich in 2015 after 13 seasons in Germany but has had a disastrous time at Old Trafford.

The German, who also announced his international retirement recently, has made just 18 appearances for the Red Devils after an injury-ravaged 2015/16 Premier League campaign.

The 32-year old has been told that he is surplus to requirements by United manager Jose Mourinho. In fact, he was forced to clear out his locker and train with the Manchester United reserves and youth team and has been linked with a move away from the club since.

Most recently, it was reported that Jose Mourinho had placed a £2m price tag on the German and with Inter and Juventus both interested in the midfielder, a move away seemed a foregone conclusion.

Schweinsteiger though has now announced that he will not be leaving United for another European football club which could imply that he is looking for a move to the MLS or China or that Jose Mourinho has finally made him a part of his plans.

In his message, the German also said that Manchester United were the only team in the world that could have possibly made him leave Bayern Munich. He expressed hs gratitude to the fans but was unable to comment on his current situation.

With the arrival of Paul Pogba, it looks unlikely that Schweinsteiger will be given much playing time and it would be advisable for him to look for other options.

Schweinsteiger, considered by many to be one of Germany’s greatest football players made over 350 appearances for Bayern Munich and played a major role in their rise to the pinnacle of European football. At Munich, he won 8 Bundesliga titles as well as a UEFA Champions League medal.

He has also made over 100 appearances for Germany in his highly decorated international career. Manchester United fans have supported the German throughout his ordeal and have been horrified by the treatment he has received in the 2 seasons he has spent in England.
