Jeffren: Needs a fresh start!

Reports are surfacing that Owen Coyle’s high fliers Bolton Wanderers are set to land European Champions Barcelona starlet, Jeffren Suarez. It’s understood that Bolton supremo Phil Gartside is ready to fly home early from the US to tie up an ambitious £5million swoop for the Barca man.

After having a brilliant start to his Barcelona career in the famed La Masia, the tricky midfielder scored 14 times in 82 league games for Barcelona B and three times in 23 La Liga games for the side’s first team. However, he has found first-team opportunities limited, especially after the meteoric rise in Pedro’s stature as an important player in the first-team. He had a disappointing last season playing just eight times in La Liga– scoring one goal – and five games in the Spanish Cup and Champions League games.

The Venezuelan player knows the waiting time is over and he needs to get regular football, even if that means leaving his beloved Barcelona. After initial apprehensions about plying his trade for a mid-table club in a foreign league, Jeffren has accepted his fate with Bolton’s pursuit the most sincere.

Yesterday, Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta told reporters:

“I can assure you that the market isn’t as active as people say,” despite reports at the weekend suggesting to the contrary (reportedly, Bolton has had a £5 million bid accepted by Barca).

“We are working with his agent and we will look for the best place for him to continue his career,” Zubizarreta added.

After recent exploits at the European U-21 Championships, Jeffren is exuding confidence and Bolton boss Owen Coyle is hoping to bolster his attacking options by persuading the stylish midfielder to the Reebok Stadium. Bolton Wanderers were the Premier League entertainers last season, with fearless attacking and lucid displays, impressing one and all. But, after having sold off their star striker Johan Elmander to Turkish giants, Galatasaray and Daniel Sturridge back at Chelsea after an impressive loan spell at Bolton, things do seem a bit dull at Reebok, currently.

Coyle wants four more captures for the new Premier League campaign after his squad was found wanting in a disappointing end to a glorious campaign, last season and Jeffren seems like the marquee signing that can lift the spirits at Reebok Stadium, again. A deal is set to be wrapped in the coming days after Barcelona allowed both parties to start negotiations.

Owen Coyle has a knack for unearthing diamonds from potential youth prodigies and Jeffren may find himself in able hands to guide his career forward.
