Euro Club Index rankings : Real Madrid knock Barcelona off their perch
Manchester City are the highest placed English club
Real Madrid have moved to the top of the Euro Club Index rankings, with Barcelona, who were occupying top spot, dropping to second. Barcelona’s 1-3 loss to Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League last night moved them down the table, while Real Madrid have yet to face Legia Warsaw in the UEFA Champions League tonight.
Barcelona went down 45 points to move to 4374 points, just 1 point behind Real Madrid. Manchester City and Arsenal both moved up one place, with the Premier League table-toppers at 7th and 8th place respectively. Bundesliga side Bayern Munich are 3rd in the index, and will not be overtaking Barca and Madrid anytime soon, 217 points behind Los Blancos.
Atletico, Juventus and Paris St-Germain make up the rest of the top 6, while Benfica moved into the top 10 of the index, moving UEFA Europa League champions Sevilla out.
The Euro Club Index’s notes their methodology on their website : “The Euro Club Index (ECI) is a ranking of the football teams in the highest division of all European countries, that shows their relative playing strengths at a given point in time, and the development of playing strengths in time. The ECI makes it possible to calculate the probabilities of different match results (win, draw, loss) for football matches in the near future.”
