Sky Sports Italia have reported that River Plate midfielder Erik Lamela has taken solid steps to move away from the relegated club after an agreement has been made between them and Roma. The fee paid for the attacking midfielder is known to be around 12million Euros plus added bonuses, and will see the Argentine ace continue his career in Rome.

Erik Lamela

The midfielder earlier had confirmed that negotiations between Roma and River Plate had started regarding his future. This week, he said a heartfelt goodbye to his colleagues and the fans of his club which indicated that the move might just be sealed for good. Daniel Passarella, president of the Argentine giants who suffered a shock relegation last term, is now expected to fly to Italy so that the deal can be finalised. Lamela was under the watchful eyes of other clubs such as Inter, AC Milan and debt-ridden Napoli as well. Yet as of now this is a good scoop for the Roma director of football Walter Sabatini as it seems like he has finally got his man.

Last year, Lamela had made 29 starts for River Plate, and scored three goals in a season that eventually ended in heartbreak as the juggernauts of Argentine football were relegated from the first division. Yet, Erik’s performance were spirited enough to be drawing in interest from all spheres and a deal now looks dead and done. He is considered a great prospect for Argentina already, though he is only nineteen. We can expect him to prosper in Rome.
