While many might still scoff at the world record fee Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire last summer, it cannot be denied that the 26-year-old has been improving in recent weeks. He has been the lynchpin of the defence that has conceded just two goals in the last eight matches in all competitions and once again, the England international was composed and impressive in his performance at the back.

After the initial gaffe from De Gea that saw Manchester United go behind, Maguire rose to the occasion and successfully marshalled the backline, covering up for the underperforming Victor Lindelof alongside him.

The former Leicester City man was assured in his defending particularly in the second half as Everton upped the ante, with his smart positioning playing a key role in ensuring that the Red Devils did not concede another goal in the face of increased pressure.

In what was a skipper's display, Maguire made two interceptions and a game-high 15 clearances, while also posing a threat when attacking setpieces, and with each passing week, he has begun to prove his worth to the United cause.

#3 Nemanja Matic

After a series of underwhelming performances, many opined that Nemanja Matic's time at the top was over and fans of Manchester United were eager to see him sold.

However, the former Chelsea man has ridden the storm and has been much improved in recent weeks, showing flashes of what made him one of the best holding midfielders in the world some years ago.

He was started at the base of midfield against Everton and he played his role as the instigator of Manchester United's attacking impetus, setting Bruno Fernandez up for the equalizer, while he was also excellent in his holding job, with three tackles and four interceptions contributed on the day.
