FA Cup Final: Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool

Chelsea ran out champions of the FA Cup for the fourth time in six years as they edged out Liverpool in an enthralling encounter filled with controversy at Wembely Stadium.

Brazil international Ramires fired the Blues ahead inside the first 11 minutes to send the Chelsea supporters and manager Roberto Di Matteo into ecstasy.

A drab first half followed, before the second 45 sprung into life with Chelsea doubling their lead just 7 minutes after the restart, with Dider Drogba bagging another important goal for his side.

However, the Reds clawed back with substitute Andy Carroll – who netted in semi-final victory over Everton – showing good feet inside the box and finishing coolly beyond the reach of Petr Cech.

Late drama followed when Luis Suarez crossed in for Carroll, who made an impressive impact since coming off the bench, whose fierce header was deemed to have not crossed the line as Cech scrambled the ball away.

In what was a rather dull 90 minutes, Chelsea will feel they deserved to win the tie as they, on the whole, played the best football and finished their chances ruthlessly against a lacklustre, lethargic Liverpool team, who showed nothing in the first period.
